Is it a good idea to do buy HKD in HKIA? I understand the exchange rates in airports might be higher, and I might need to wait in the line.

If not, what are the places I should exchange?

Just pull the money from atm, i hope you dont bank with chase they have a horrible international rate. But typically you will have to visit an atm later on. Your debit will not be accepted by most banks, i think icbc bank will work for you. The exchange rates at the airport are typically horrible. Use your ATM to get some local cash may be best. There are many banks and exchange kiosks through out the city with competitive rates.
