Difference between Starbucks S. Hello my fellow Redditbucks That's probably not a thing. It makes us all sound like web surfing deer.

I just received an e-mail, as I'm sure many of you have, about accepting a grant in Fidelity.

Upon further investigation, it appears as though I was given 11 RSU's, which I'm assuming is bean stock. I was wondering if someone could give me a detailed explanation of the difference between bean stock and the stock I would buy by taking money out of each paycheck, which I already have two shares of.

Somewhat on this subject, can someone explain to me exactly what grants are?

I know it may be a silly question, but I can't get a straight answer from anyone. It's company stock that is given to you for free with the only stipulation being you have to keep working for the company for X amount of years to be able to sell it. So you get stock today.

Next year half will vest and become yours. The year after more vests and the year after the rest vests.

So in three years the stock given to you today will truly become yours. RSUs are Restricted Stock Units that the company gives you each year if you meet the qualifying deadlines. One they are awarded to you, you have to log in to Fidelity and "Accept" the reward.

If you don't accept them they will not vest as scheduled I think you have a year from the grant date to accept them.

They're Restricted because you aren't able to sell or trade them until they "Vest" become available.
