By Jane Denton For Thisismoney. Britain's biggest supermarkets are cutting the cost of filling up at the pumps, after facing criticism for failing to pass on falling wholesale costs to consumers. Supermarkets are dropping the price of petrol and diesel by up to 2p per litre. Asda has rolled out a nationwide price cap at its forecourts, while Tesco is cutting its prices this afternoon, followed by Sainsbury's on Tuesday. Morrisons will cut prices by up to 2p per litre from this evening.

However, the FairFuelUK campaign said the cuts did not go far enough and that the price falls do not reflect the drop in wholesale costs. With some garages claiming they weren't seeing lower prices, it asked 'So who is fleecing the motorist?

Andy Peake, Asda's senior director for petrol, said: From 5pm this afternoon, Tesco is cutting the cost of filling up at its forecourts by 2p per litre.
